The Karnataka Lokayukta unearthed illegal wealth amassed by officials to the tune of Rs 316.37 crore from 198 raids in the last three years, Lokayukta N Santhosh Hegde said today.Saying that Lokayukta had not only performed the role of exposing corrupt officials, he said it had also helped thousands of people who approached it seeking redress of their problems."It was difficult to wipe out corruption without an attitudinal change among officials and without public support to inculcate honesty, integrity and transparency in the system," he told reporters.Hegde reiterated his demand for giving more powers to Lokayukta including powers to question officials trapped by itfor possessing wealth disproportionate to their known sourcesof income.
