KOLKATA: As the quota controversy shrouds all major educational institutes of the country, Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC) has decided to increase the number of seats from the next academic session.

Director of IIMC Shekhar Chaudhury said that the institute had taken the decision to increase the number of seats although it did not receive any order from the HRD ministry to that effect.

From the coming session starting end of June, the total number of seats for full time postgraduate programmes had been increased from 265 to 335, he said.

In addition, the institute is also starting a full time one year programme for executives, where the number of seats would be 30.

On the other hand, IIM-Ahmedabad has decided not to increase the number of seats. The institute director B Dholakia had said it was not possible to increase the number as the plate was full.
