While lakhs of MBA aspirants from the across the country would give anything to get into India's mecca of management, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA), one of the institute's chosen ones attempted to end his life on Tuesday.

A student of the institute's PGP-1, the batch of 2010-2012, made two consecutive suicide attempts, one on Monday afternoon and the other on Tuesday morning. On Monday, the boy attempted to jump off the fourth floor of the library, but was spotted by the staff in the nick of time, and prevented from taking the extreme step.

The next day though, the persistent student tried jumping off the first floor of the institute's Louis Kahn plaza. His attempt was again foiled, this time by students who were standing in the vicinity.

Speaking about the incident, a source from the institute said, "We do not know the exact cause of the student's attempt to suicide, but many on campus feel it could be the rigorous course structure, and the boy's inability to cope with it." However, some others opined that it looks more like some other issue that may have been worrying him since before joining the institute.

The institute has contacted the boy's parents, who are on their way to take their son back home.

Around 385 students joined the institute PGP this year, and around 40 students joined the Agribusiness Management (ABM) programme.
