NEW DELHI: The Indira Gandhi National OpenUniversity (IGNOU) is contemplating establishment of an Indo-Australian Studies Resource and Research Centre to facilitate promotion of inter-disciplinary studies.

Presently, the political science faculty in the university is developing a one-year post graduate diploma in Australian Studies.

This programme will include courses on politics, economy and society and their interface with India; it was announced at the beginning of a two-day seminar by IGNOU on Monday.

The university is also planning to set up an Indo-Australian Studies Resource and Research Centre in its campus to facilitate promotion of inter-disciplinary studies ranging from fundamentals of Social Sciences and Humanities to Vocational Courses, Bruce Bennet, Member of Board of Australia
India Council (AIC) said.

IGNOU has initiated a teaching and research programme on Australia and its growing linkages with India.

The seminar will discuss the topic "Cultural diversity, governance and policy: India-Australia."
