Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said on Thursday that he would get involved in the politics in Uttar Pradesh, from where he has been to elected to Rajya Sabha, only if BJP asked him to.

Parrikar was elected unopposed to the Upper House of Parliament from Lucknow on Thursday. Responding to a question whether he will have a political role in UP, Parrikar said "if the party wants, I will....Right now, the party has not told me anything. The party has asked me to become Rajya Sabha MP from there (Lucknow). As an MP, whatever requires to be done in that constituency I will be doing."

The former Goa Chief Minister said he would be resigning as Panaji MLA on Friday.
