The sleuths of directorate general of income tax (investigation) cracked down on two major agro-based companies in the city on Thursday morning. More than hundred tax officials thronged the offices of Ridhi Sidhi Gluco, Ashram Road and Jalaram Rice Mill in Bavla.

According to official sources, a total of 22 places, including offices and residences of both the companies and its owners were covered in the operation. Ridhi Sidhi Gluco, involved in agro business, is a company listed with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). Sources said that the company is one of the largest starch producers in the country. In addition, it produces 35 different products.

Jalaram Rice Mill, located in Bavla, is a major exporter of basmati rice, non-basmati rice and pulses.
