SRINAGAR: As the nation got together seeking justice for the rape and murder of Priyadarshini Mattoo ten years ago, the Hurriyat Conference on Sunday condemned the act as extremely outrageous and inhumman and extended support to the Kashmiri pandits protesting against the acquittal of the accused.

"Rape and murder of Priya Matoo is verily a poignant incident and we strongly condemn it and appeal to all the upholders of human rights to rise to the occasion to condemn
such brutal acts, a Hurriyat spokesman said.

He said Human rights violation especially torture and rape of a woman is extremely barbaric and inhuman act.

He said better late than never, if Pandit brethren are protesting on this human issue, we hope that every Kashmiri individual and organisation will raise voice against the
inhuman treatment meted our to our mothers, sisters and daughters in the state.

The 25-year old law student was raped and brutally murdered in a posh South delhi locality in 1996.
