NEW DELHI: As India celebrates her 60th year of independence, hundreds await clearance of their applications under the freedom fighters pension scheme.

Till July 31 this year, 310 applications verified by the state, were being processed by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

Additionally, 438 cases from Maharashtra and 98 cases Goa are also being processed, Minister of State for Home Affairs Manikrao Gavit told Lok Sabha in response to a query on Tuesday. Since its inception in 1972, 1.70 lakh freedom-fighters benefitted.
