The ceasefire violation started at 5.30 pm when Pakistan army activated the LoC in Akhnoor, Nowshera and Krishna Ghati sectors of Jammu, Rajouri and Poonch districts respectively.

"At about 1730 hours, Pakistan initiated unprovoked Cease Fire Violation by resorting to heavy Shelling using Mortars and Firing Small Arms along LoC in Akhnoor, Nowshera and Krishna Ghati Sectors", said Lieutenant Colonel Devender Anand, defence spokesman at Jammu.

Indian army immediately swung into action and responded in equal measure to silence Pakistani guns. "Indian Army is retaliating strongly and effectively", said Lieutenant Colonel Anand.

However, there has been no evacuation of the people from the border areas so far. Rahul Yadav, district collector of Poonch, said there is no panic in the border district as such and therefore contingency plan has not been made operational.

"There is no panic. Contingency plan has not been made operational. It is always part of our disaster management plan, be it a man-made or natural calamity, but it is not operational", said Yadav.

Mohommad Aijaz Asad, district collector of Rajouri, said there is no evacuation from any part of the border district. "Ceasefire violations are a continuous process. There is no alert as such. There is no evacuation as such", he said.

The ceasefire violations come at a time when security forces on the borders and hinterland are on the high alert to thwart any attempts by Pakistan to carry out any misadventure. Indian army has further fortified its positions along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir.

Security forces deployed in the hinterland too has been put on the high alert to thwart any attempts by the Pakistan sponsored militants to vitiate peace or carry out any terror attacks. "We are always alert to thwart the terror attacks", said an officer.
