When asked why he didn't campaign for the party in the assembly polls, Trivedi told a news channel, "Honesty is being punished and dishonesty is being rewarded. Please ask my party why I was kept out of campaigning. I won't say anything (regarding it),".

Earlier in March when the Narada Sting footage, purportedly showing some high-profile leaders taking cash, came out in open, Trivedi had caused embarrassment to his party by suggesting those shown in the footage should "sit at home till the time they come out clean" from charges levelled against them.

"They (the MPs) should, let's say if I were the President of the party, I would have just said you come out clean and tell us what it is. And till time you are clear, you sit at home," Trivedi had then said when asked if the TMC MPs accused of accepting money be thrown out of party. The TMC had termed those videos as concocted and engineered to malign the party leadership ahead of the assembly polls.
