‘High Danger’ avalanche warning issued in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district

‘High Danger’ avalanche warning issued in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district

The Jammu & Kashmir State Disaster Management Authority (JK SDMA) on Saturday issued an avalanche warning with a 'High Danger' level for Kupwara district. The avalanche is likely to occur above 2000 metres of Kupwara district in the next 24 hours, ANI reported.

Meanwhile, the JK SDMA has also issued ‘Medium Danger’ level avalanche warnings for multiple other districts over 2000 metres. The fresh ‘Medium Danger’ warnings for next 24 hours were issued for Bandipora, Baramulla, Doda, Ganderbal, Kishtwar, Poonch, Ramban & Reasi districts.  

The fresh IMD warnings come after the state disaster management authority earlier issued an avalanche warning for 10 districts in J&K on Friday. High Danger warnings were issued for Bandipora and Kupwara districts.

Baramulla and Ganderbal were put under medium danger level while low-danger level warnings were issued for Anantnag, Doda, Kishtwar, Kulgam, Poonch and Ramban districts. The authorities have advised people to avoid stepping into avalanche-prone areas and take appropriate precautions. 

Jammu Kashmir saw an avalanche strike Baltal along the Zojila pass in the Sonamarg area on Thursday.
