Heavy rains lash Kolkata, train services affected

On Friday evening, heavy rains lashed Kolkata leading to train services getting affected. Train services were affected at both Howrah and Sealdah stations. Every day lakhs of people commute by railways to come to Kolkata for work, so many faced immense difficulty as train services were held up. At some places, there were road blockades owing to falling off trees. For over an hour in the evening, Nor'wester lashed Kolkata. Nor'wester or Kalbaisakhi as it is called locally, is common in West Bengal during the summer months. It is marked by winds blowing at a high speed accompanied with thunderstorms. 

On Friday too, Kolkata faced the brunt of heavy thunderstorm. Owing to snapping of overhead wires, train services were stopped at Sealdah main line and Howrah main line for some time. Similarly, train services were affected in Bandel- Katoya line. Commuters faced heavy problem and even now the services haven't fully stabilised. 

In Kolkata, road blockage was reported from several places like Red Road in Central Kolkata. However, authorities ensured that in many places clean up work was done quickly to restore normalcy.
