SRINAGAR: Heavy rains that lashed parts of Anantnag district have caused extensive damages to fruit and standing crops, officials said on Wednesday.

Damages caused by the heavy rain-fall in Bari Aagan, Nadhiphal, Kreeri, Khanpora, Haptdar and Kandaji are being assessed, G A Peer, district development commissioner, said.

"A joint team of officials from Revenue, Horticulture and Agriculture department are assessing the damages in the areas affected by the heavy rains which lashed on Tuesday. They will submit their reports within a day for early disbursement of relief to the affected", he said.

State Minister for Health, Peer Mohammad Hussain said that the hailstorm and rains have caused heavy damages to the fruit and standing crops in parts of Anantnag district.

He also directed the district development commissioner to provide early relief to the affected farmers.
