Health dept to hire sanitary sub-inspectors

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to give preference to the 4th grade employees working as sweepers in the recruitment of the sanitary sub inspectors. From now, these jobs will have 25% reserved quota for sweepers of AMC. The civic body will fill the 132 vacant posts of sanitary sub inspectors, falling under the health department.

AMC has received almost 1,150 applications for the 132 vacant posts. After the intervention of the opposition leaders during the standing committee meeting on Wednesday, health department has made changes in the recruitment policy. Now, from 132 posts, 32 will be filled through AMC's grade-4 employees. For the remaining 100 posts, the civic body will scrutinise the applications that they have received.

This decision to fill 25% posts through already working sweepers will be applicable for all the future requirements in the same category. According to opposition leader Mangal Surajkar, this move will help the youth of Valmiki community working as sweepers. The proposal to give 25% reservation in the recruitment of sanitary sub inspectors has been accepted by the authorities.
