HC rejects PIL in Shashi Tharoor-Narendra Modi spat
The PIL was filed by Jignesh Goswami, a resident of Gita Mandir, Ahmedabad, who accused Modi of making defamatory and derogatory remarks against rival politicians such as PM Dr Manmohan Singh.
Gujarat High Court on Thursday dismissed public interest litigation (PIL) that sought action against chief minister Narendra Modi for his controversial remarks targeted at Sunanda Pushkar, Dr Manmohan Singh and others.
The PIL was filed by Jignesh Goswami, a resident of Gita Mandir, Ahmedabad, who accused Modi of making defamatory and derogatory remarks against rival politicians such as PM Dr Manmohan Singh.
Goswami also said that Modi had made derogatory remark about union minister Shashi Tharoor’s wife, Sunanda Pushkar by calling her a Rs50-crore girlfriend of the human resources minister. He also questioned how broadcast of NaMo TV, which propagates achievements of the BJP government, has been allowed by the Election Commission of India (EC).
He also named chief election commissioner (CEC) VS Sampath and chief electoral officer (CEO) Anita Karwal as respondents in the PIL, asking the HC to direct them to inquire the various issues raised by him. The high court, however, dismissed the PIL.
