The Delhi High Court, on Wednesday, issued notice to the Delhi police, on petitions filed by Facebook India and Google India challenging the trial court order to face a criminal case for allegedly webcasting objectionable content.

The court sought a reply from the Delhi police on a plea by Facebook India Online Services Pvt Ltd and Google India Pvt Ltd, by tomorrow.

The trial court had, on December 23, summoned representatives of 21 social networking sites.

In its petition, Google stated, “In its capacity as a distributor, the petitioner engages in business development and promotional activities for certain limited products that include Google search, youtube and orkut.

Google also added that the ownership, management and control of the websites named in the complaint are freely and publicly available to any person accessing the Internet, so, they have no role over managing the content.
