The farmers' agitation is all set to intensify with women now all set to enter the 'Kisan Parade' on January 26. This comes in the wake of the seventh round of talks failing to break the deadlock over the contentious farm laws.

Women in several places across Haryana are receiving training to drive tractors to take part in the 'Tractor Kisan Parade' that protesting farmers have threatened to hold on January 26 (Republic Day) if their demands are not met. A woman at one of the training sites said, "Women power has joined the battlefield now."

The Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) is training these women from villages to lead the protest marches. More than 500 women are being trained by the farmers' body. They will take out a rally on Wednesday in the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway in Haryana.

Women have been present in large numbers at the protests being held by farmers at Delhi borders, now into their second month. While the centre last week agreed to withdraw Electricity Amendment Bill and the penal provisions for stubble burning in the Air Quality Commission Ordinance, farmers have said they want nothing less than the repeal of laws.

Sankyukta Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of around 40 protesting unions, had announced on Sunday to march towards Delhi with a 'tractor parade' on the Republic Day if the Centre fails to accept their demands.

The protesters say they chose Republic Day because it represents the supremacy of the people of India, and also January 26 will mark the completion of two months of the farmers' agitation.

Despite repeated assurances from the government, farmers say the new laws will leave them at the mercy of corporates.

On Monday, Union Minister Narendra Tomar said the laws will be discussed with representatives of farmers' organisations from other states. "We will discuss these three laws point-by-point and we are ready to make amendments as necessary after considering the points on which you have objections," the agriculture ministry quoted him as saying.
