Haryana to spend Rs1,695 crore for development of urban areas

The Haryana government would spend Rs1,695 crore in 2011-12 for development of urban areas in the state, a spokesperson of the urban local bodies department said today.

Quoting Haryana's minister of state for urban local bodies Gopal Kanda, the spokesperson said the department has received proposals for regularisation of over 1,300 colonies in different cities of the state and a decision would be taken shortly to provide basic facilities.

Development plans to provide more basic facilities like roads, drainage, water supply and sewerage for 73 towns have been prepared, he said.

More than 28% of the population resides in urban areas and adequate funds would be provided to improve the financial health of urban local bodies and strengthen the basic amenities in these areas, he said.
