A newlywed woman has accused seven men including her husband of gangraping her on the wedding night. The 22-year-old, who belongs to Haryana Kurukshetra, has alleged that she was sedated, locked up in a room for three days and gangraped by her husband, her two brother-in-law and four unidentified ‘tantriks’.

According to media reports, the Woman Police Station in Kurukshetra had registered a zero FIR on the complaint of the victim’s father. Later, however, the case was transferred to Yamunanagar police station.

"The case was transferred to us from Kurukshetra police station which had registered a zero FIR on September 26. According to the complaint, the woman was gangraped on September 13 and 14. We have got the woman medically examined and the samples have been sent for a lab test," Investigation Officer Sheelavanti was quoted as saying.

The family of the victim’s husband claim that the woman is mentally-unstable and she had run away.

No arrests have been made so far.

The gangrape is the stark reminder of poor state of women’s safety in Haryana. Earlier, a minor was gangraped in Rewari. After direct intervention of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, the state police came into action. So far, all accused have been arrested in the case.

According to an FIR, the incident took place when the woman was returning from a coaching centre in Kanina in Mahendragarh district.

The woman in her complaint alleged that she was kidnapped by the accused, who arrived in a car and was taken to a secluded place, where she was gang-raped after being offered a drink laced with sedatives.

Her mother had also accused the police of failing to take action in the case. She said on Friday that her daughter was in a state of shock after the incident, while the accused were "roaming freely" after the incident.
