Senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh today welcomed the possibility of Uma Bharti rejoining the party and described her as a very capable person.
"I would be very happy if Uma comes to the party. I think she would be an asset. I have known her capabilities... She is a person with dedication, devotion and big deal of ability," Singh told reporters here when asked about the possibility of the fire-brand leader rejoining the party, as also indicated by party veteran LK Advani on two occasions.
Bharti, 51, parted ways with BJP in 2005 and founded Bharatiya Janshakti Party, an entity from which she had resigned in March.
The resignation had come amid speculation that she could return to BJP, especially considering the readiness of party chief Nitin Gadkari to allow re-entry of some popular leaders.
Bharti had accompanied Advani to Somnath temple in Gujarat in September after which the stalwart leader gave indications of her possible re-induction on his blog.
Incidentally, Singh himself had rejoined BJP in June, nine months after he was shown the door for writing a controversial book on Pakistan founder Mohammed Ali Jinnah.
On his re-induction into the party fold, the 72-year-old leader had said his hurt and humiliation had been addressed by Advani.
On AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh's remark that BJP should separate itself from RSS and introspect on Hindu fundamentalism, Singh said there was a need to look into the issue of fundamentalism but the Congress leader should look into his own backyard first.
"We must introspect on fundamentalism. But as to what we should do... the Congress general secretary better leave it for the BJP to decide. He should wonder what his party should do under the circumstances," he said.
On a WikiLeaks cable claiming that BJP was confused during the discussions on the nuclear bill, he said, "I have not seen the cable and whoever had drafted it could be only from the US embassy. It's an interesting figment of imagination which induced them to say we are confused about this issue."
