A physically-challenged youth was brutally beaten up by a group of youths in the Charu Market area of the city for protesting against bursting of prohibited sound crackers, police said today.

The incident happened last night when Ratan Modi, a resident of Charu Market area, came out of his home on his wheel chair and protested against bursting of sound crackers. Infuriated over the protest, some youths of the area started throwing the crackers at Modi's wheel chair. He was later on pushed on the ground and mercilessly beaten up. His wheelchair was also badly damaged, police said.

A complaint has been filed and we are trying to trace the group involved in the incident. Investigations are on, a senior officer of Charu Market police station added.
