Result Update: BJP's Pushpendra Chandel secured 399572 vote victory in Hamirpur. 

BJP's Kunwar Pushpendra Singh Chandel, who had won in 2014, contested against Congress' Pritam Singh Lodhi (Kisaan) and SP-BSP combine's Dileep Singh who was contesting on a BSP ticket. Arvind Kumar Prajapati of the Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) was also in the fray.

The constituency went to polls in the fourth phase of the general elections on April 29.

Constituency profile

One of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, Hamirpur Lok Sabha constituency covers districts of Hamirpur, Mahoba and Banda. 

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) won the seat twice -  Ashok Kumar Singh Chandel in 1999 and Vijay Bahadur Singh in 2009 - while SP's  Rajnarayan Budholiya won it in 2004. 

In 2014, Chandel had defeated Vishambhar Prasad Nishad of the Samajwadi Party with a margin of nearly 2.66 lakh votes. While Congress has won the seat most times, its last victory came in 1984 when Swami Prasad Singh won from here. 

Hamirpur Lok Sabha constituency comprises true assembly segment of Hamirpur and Mahoba and also one assembly constituency of Banda district: Hamirpur and Rath (Hamirpur district), Mahoba and Charkhari of Mahoba district; and Tindwari assembly constituency of Banda district.

Lok Sabha Elections 2019: State Profile

In the last parliamentary elections in 2014, the BJP had won 71 seats in the state, securing 42.63 per cent of the votes. BJP ally Apna Dal bagged two more. The Samajwadi Party had won five seats with a vote share of 22.35 per cent. The BSP did not win any seat but secured 19.77 per cent votes. The Congress registered wins on two UP seats in 2014, bagging 7.53 per cent of the votes. 

UP is facing a triangular battle between the BJP, the Congress and BSP-SP-RLD alliance. Under the alliance's seat-sharing formula, the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is contesting on 38 Lok Sabha seats of the total 80 seats, Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party on 37 seats and the Chaudhary Ajit Singh's Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) on three seats. The alliance has left two for Congress' Sonia Gandhi (Rae Bareli) and Rahul Gandhi (Amethi).
