The convocation will be held on January 4 at the Senate Hall, located inside the GU's main building. Gujarat governor Dr Kamalaji will preside as chief guest of the function, in which more than 50,000 under-graduate and post-graduate students of various streams will be given their degrees.

These are students having studied arts, commerce, science, pharmacy, law, management and computer science, among others.

PG students of forensic science, clinical science and bio-tech will receive their first-ever degrees in this convocation.  Also, around 300 students will be given medals for their outstanding performances, during the ceremony.

Due to the limited seating capacity of the hall, the GU administration has decided to invite these 300 students only.

To encourage students and lecturers, GU has decided to introduce three new categories of awards this year. For lecturers, there will be a 'Gurukul Jyoti' award.

It will be given to a lecturer who has contributed significantly through research work or national-level paper presentation.

For students, there will be 'Golden Peacock' and 'Silver Peacock' awards. One male and one female student will be chosen for these awards, which will be given to students having performed exceptionally well in studies, sports, extra-curricular activities and social services.
