Director general of police, (DGP) Gujarat state, SS Khandwawala, is all set to take details of banks which refuse to grant loans to police officials.

"There are around 80,000 bank accounts of police officials and how can a bank refuse to give loans to needy police officials?" Khandwawala has asked.

"The bank transacts crores of rupees through salary accounts and they should provide loans to police officials in need," a police constable said.

The police will soon start a campaign to examine and scrutinize banks which refuse to give loans to police personnel. "We, as a department, will take the responsibility of our men and banks should, therefore, provide loans to them," Khandwawala said.

The move came after a police constable made a moving address at a public programme and shared his experience of not getting an education loan for his daughter who secured over 85% in HSC exams.

Khandwawala said that the police should be provided with loans. Khandwawala also said that if required, money from the police welfare funds can also be diverted to help disadvantaged students of police families.
