During the hearing, the court grilled the petitioner on how the Desai election was a matter of public interest which had prompted the petition. However, when the petitioner could not give satisfactory answers to its questions, the court posted the petition to January 22 for final order.

It may be recalled that earlier the court had asked the petitioner to satisfy the court as to how an allegedly illegal appointment had anything to do with public interest. The court had then adjourned the hearing, asking the petitioner to satisfy its queries by Wednesday.
