Modhwadia alleged that the state government was purchasing power from Essar and Adani at a much higher price when it was available from central government at a much cheaper rate. "The state government is purchasing power at Rs5-6 per unit from   these private companies, while Centre provides it at Rs2 per unit. The state government also buys power from central government at a cheaper rate but sells it at a higher price to the other states ," he alleged, adding that it spends around Rs11, 000 crore buying electricity from private companies.

The Congress leader also said that about 4.55 lakh applications asking for electricity connections are still pending with the state government. "There are people who do not get electricity for eight hours a day. There are 57 dark zones in the state which do not receive electricity at all, while top industrialists receive electricity without fail," he said.
