Gujarat gets eight new IPS officers
The overburdened IPS lobby can cheer now after eight new IPS officers have been sanctioned by the Union government.
While the state's home department suffers from acute shortage of adequate manpower, the overburdened IPS lobby has reasons to cheer about now after the eight new IPS officers have been sanctioned by the Union government to Gujarat. Confirming the development, sources in the state home department said: "The state has been allotted eight IPS officers. They were qualified for the Indian Police Service after successfully clearing the 2009 civil services examinations. After the completion of two years training, eight have been allocated Gujarat cadre," said the sources.These new officers are Vasudevbhai, Jaipal Singh Rathore, Leena Patil, Dipakkumar Meghani, Nirlipt Rai, Antrip Sood, Mahendar Bagria, and Sweta Mali. However, the Gujarat cadre is still short of several officers. The total authorised strength of IPS officers for Gujarat cadre is 195. But there are only 129 officers are on the job.
It includes the officers on deputation. Moreover there are 13 others officers, who are under suspension, or on study leave, or on some other leave. So there is a shortage of 66 IPS officers in the state.
But now allotment of these eight officers will fill some vacancies sand bring down the shortage to 58 officers. Sources further informed that these new officers will be posted mostly in various districts as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).
