Gandhinagar celebrated its 47th birthday on Tuesday. The foundation brick of the capital of the state was laid on August 2, 1965 at GEB Colony near Pethapur. Gandhinagar Shaher Vasahat Mandal and GSECL Recreation Club celebrated the city's birthday by cutting cake and carrying out a tree plantation.

The Congress corporators of Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation carried out cycle rally in the city and also paid floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.

The function was attended by in-charge minister of Gandhinagar Jaysinh Chauhan, mayor Mahendrasinh Rana, municipal commissioner CR Kharsan, leader of opposition in GMC Manu Patel, president of Gandhinagar Shaher Vasahal Mandal Arun Buch and additional chief engineer of GEB BR Adhvaryu.
