The party held two public meetings in the constituency on Friday amid presence of senior party leaders and Gujarati film stars Kanodia brothers to attract voters. The party leaders are also making efforts to ensure that the seat stays with them and they win with a maximum margin.

Addressing the crowd, Bhushan Bhatt, candidate for BJP, said, "The people of Khadia will vote for the BJP to ensure that the development work carried out by chief minister Narendra Modi goes on."

The by-poll was necessitated after the death of Ashok Bhatt, speaker of the Gujarat assembly. Bhatt had held the seat since 1975.

The party chose his son Bhushan as the candidate.  "The people will vote for the BJP as a tribute to my late father Ashok Bhatt not me," Bhushan said. Kaushik Patel, vice-president of the state BJP, Rakesh Shah, city BJP president and Vallabh Kakadia, MLA of Bapunagar were present at the public meeting.
