Raising a hue and cry over the guard of honour given to BJP leader LK Advani here during the party's 'chintan baithak', the Congress has accused the Himachal Pradesh government of violating protocol.

In a letter to Governor Prabha Rau, Gujarat PCC spokesman Jayantilal Parmar drew his attention towards the event saying the state government violated the protocol by giving guard of honour to Advani, who is a Lok Sabha member from Gandhinagar.

"Is there any special protocol in Himachal Pradesh to give guard of honour to a leader of the opposition?" Parmar asked in the letter.

He asked whether a leader of the opposition, who is not a minister either at the Centre or any state government, could be given such an honour.

Parmar appealed to the Governor to look into the matter and take appropriate action.

Justifying the objection raised by Parmar, his counterpart here, Kaul Singh Thakur, said, "A leader of the opposition is indeed not entitled to guard of honour...it's a wrong practice."
