PUDUCHERRY: Teachers, designated as Lecturers in the governent higher secondary schools in Puducherry, would go on an indefinite strike from the first week of June to push their charter of demands.

President of the Pondicherry State Lecturers Association S.K.Subramanian told press persons here ON Thursday that the teachers numbering 600 were given a 'raw deal' in so far as promotional opportunities were concerned.

Although the Central government had stipulated that there should be an apportionment of a minimum of 20 per cent of the posts of Headmasters of High schools for the lecturers the directorate of education here had done nothing and this necessitated the teachers to go on agitations quite often.

As no assurance had been implemented, the association had decided that its members would go on indefinite strike from the first week of June. All schools are slated to reopen on June 2 after summer vacation.
