The employee of any department found involved in the theft of electricity would invite action against him under Electricity Act and Haryana Civil Service Rules, 2016, an official release said today.

Besides imposing a heavy penalty, a departmental action would be initiated against them, it said.

About 2.5 lakh employees are working in different departments of the state government. Apart from this, more than 1.5 lakh employees are engaged in various boards and corporations.

During the raids conducted by the power department in different districts of the Haryana recently, various cases of power theft in the premises of government employees have come to fore, it said.

Till now, action was taken against the erring employees under the Electricity Act (but) their concerned departments were not being informed about their offence. Now, taking a serious note of such incidents, the power utilities have decided not only to act against such employees but also intimate their departments, it added.
