Tamil Nadu government will construct temporary houses for people in Nilagiri district who have lost their homes due to heavy rains, which devastated the region
last week.
    
Each house would be constructed on a war footing at a cost of Rs 70,000, it was decided at a meeting chaired by chief minister MKarunanidhi, an official release here said.
    
It was found that 1,869 houses in the district were either damaged completely or partially due to the rains.
    
The meeting also decided to construct permanent houses for those affected in the rains within six months, the release said.
