A senior official of the Government of Bihar was shot dead by unidentified assailants at his home, the police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place early on Tuesday morning under the Secretariat police station area in the state capital. The deceased, Rajiv Kumar, in his 50s, was an Under Secretary in the Department of Planning, Bihar, and was posted at the Patna Secretariat.

According to Kumar’s wife, three or four unidentified persons broke into their home in the wee hours of Tuesday and asked them to surrender their money and valuable possessions. “When Kumar resisted, they had a fight with him and open fired. One of the bullets hit him in chest,” she said.
