"The suspicion for the killing points to the GJM. Therefore I am resigning," Chettri told PTI.

Incidentally, Chettri has been named in the FIR filed at Darjeeling police station against six, including GJM chief Bimal Gurung, his wife Asha, who heads the GJM's women's wing, and General Secretary Roshan Giri on charges of conspiracy for Tamang's killing.

Yesterday, senior GJM leader Anmol Prasad, who had represented the party at the first four rounds of tripartite talks with the Centre and West Bengal government also quit in protest against the killing of the All India Gorkha League chief.

Citing a similar reason, Prasad said people had begun believing in the GJM's hand behind the murder.
