Good news for Mumbaikars: Ola, Uber strike called off temporarily

Late of Friday night, Ola and Uber representatives announced they’d be calling off their strike temporarily for 15 days.

Maharashtra Transport minister Diwakar Raote said that union leaders of Uber and Ola had come to an understanding that until the next meeting and  some incentives would be given to drivers.

The companies reached the concordat till November 15 so as to not cause further problems for Diwali users. The strike was called off with the understanding that a  new fare chart on price-per-kilometre by mid-November, which will take rising fuel costs into consideration.

The drivers will earn a profit on each ride it’s learned and as of now, there’ll be no increase in fare for customers.

Sachin Bhosale from Maharashtra Rajya Kamgar Sangh was quoted saying, “The companies have agreed to think through our demands till November 15. Till that time, we will avail an incentive scheme from the companies that will ensure we get paid better. The scheme will help us clear the losses sustained in the past 12 days of the strike.”

Mumbai has about 50,000 app-based cabs. The drivers were demanding higher fares amid soaring fuel prices. They are also protesting the policy of allowing customers whose phone numbers are linked with Aadhar card number and suspension of drivers based on complaints made by customers in case of any untoward incident among other things.
