Vishwamitra was taken into custody at a stopover in Varanasi for making the bomb threat following an altercation with fellow passengers, news agency IANS reported on Sunday.

Local police said Vishwamitra, named after a venerated sage mentioned in ancient Hindu epics, had acted "funny" with a woman passenger who objected to his behaviour.

All 30 passengers were evacuated and the Jet Airways plane was searched for several hours before the Delhi-Khajuraho flight continued onwards, the report said.
