The ground staff identified as a 50-year-old Vipul Dutta was carrying out at security check at the apron area of the terminal, when the glass panel of an adjacent service corridor collapsed, leaving him seriously injured.

The injured staff was admitted to the Apollo hospital and is currently under observation. Last year, a similar incident claimed the life of a CISF personnel.

In July last year, a CISF jawan was carrying out an anti-sabotage check ahead of the Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's arrival from London. While checking out the security arrangements, he accidentally stepped on a polycarbonate sheet covering a glass which had broken. The polycarbonate sheet could not take the weight of the jawan and Singh fell 12 feet under, receiving serious head injuries. He later succumbed to his injuries.
