An application has been filed before the Gujarat high court seeking provision of proper medical facilities to the thalassemic kids of Junagadh who were allegedly infected with HIV during blood transfusion in the Junagadh government hospital.

The application will be heard on February 2 along with the PIL filed by petitioner lawyer Girish Das seeking compensation for these kids.

In the petition Das has submitted that the kids have to suffer major ailment during winter season.

These thallassemic kids are already suffering from blood ailment and now with after being infected with HIV, their condition can be critical as the HIV lowers their immunity, he stated. The state, therefore, should provide them proper medical facilities to ensure better health, he said.

Last Thursday, principal secretary  of family welfare department PK Taneja had filed an affidavit before the bench and reiterated that the kids might have been infected with HIV from other sources.
