Ghonda assembly constituency is one of the 70 assembly seats in Delhi and is a part of North East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency. There are about 2 lakh eligible voters in Ghonda constituency.
Ghonda was represented in the Delhi assembly by Aam Aadmi Party's Shri Dutt Sharma who won the seat in 2015 against Sahab Singh Chauhan by 8,000 votes. Congress' Bhisham Sharma secured the third position and could only poll 18,000 votes in his favour.
In 1993, Lal Behari Tiwari of the BJP won the seat and Congress' Bheeshma Sharma emerged victorious in 1998 and 2003. The BJP won back the seat in 2008 with Sahab Singh Chauhan winning the seat by just 580 votes.
Sahab Singh Chauhan retained the seat in the 2013 election, the first contest held after the emergence of the AAP. Chauhan won the seat by 12,000 votes against Congress' Bheeshma Sharma while the AAP was placed on the third position. This was one of the very few seats in Delhi where the Congress was a runner-up.
In 2020, the AAP again fielded Sharma while the BJP placed its best on Ajay Mahawar. Bhisham Sharma contesting on a Congress ticket.

Delhi Assembly elections were held on February 8 while counting of votes were conducted on Tuesday, February 11.
The ruling AAP emerged victorious in the triangular contest with the BJP and the Congress. The party won 63 of the 70 assembly seats that went to polls on February 8. The BJP won seven seats while the Congress again failed to open its account.
The Kejriwal-led AAP had won 67 seats in the 70-member assembly in 2015 assembly elections, defying all expectations. The Congress failed to open its account in the assembly and the BJP was able to win three seats.
