Harjani kidnapped Bhavik to put pressure on DK so that he would withdraw as a witness in the murder case. The police, including ATS, Crime Branch, Kheda police, Anand police and Vadodara police, had jointly tracked down the gangster when he kidnapped Bhavik Patel.

The police agencies found that Harjani was in regular touch with a senior IPS official during the kidnapping.

This was found out when the police teams intercepted Harjani's phone calls. The cops found through the intercepted calls that Harjani had received a whopping Rs1.3 crore to release Bhavik. It was later revealed that the deal was actually struck with the help of a senior cop.

What's shocking is that the senior cop was actually paid a sizeable amount of that money for his 'services' to Harjani, said police sources.

The police will be preparing a detailed report on the phone conversations between Harjani and the senior police officer. The ties between Harjani and the cop in question are said to be strong. A high-level probe would also be set up to investigate the same, police sources said.
