Jammu and Kashmir police today claimed to have busted a gang of thieves by arresting 17 accused in Sopore township of Baramulla district and recovered stolen property worth lakhs of rupees from them.

The alleged thieves were arrested by a special investigation team which was constituted following series of burglaries in Sopore town, 55 kms from here, over the past several months, a police spokesman said.

He said the SIT succeeded in arresting 17 burglars who confessed to their crimes.

Stolen property worth lakhs of rupees have been recovered at the instance of the arrested persons, the spokesman said.
