Gang in underpants strikes Ahmedabad again

Kinjal Thakkar was listening to her favourite song on her cell phone a little after 1am on Sunday and as the gentle strains of the music lulled her to sleep, at her dwelling at Anushthan Bungalow, Saraswati Vidya Mandir near Science City, the dreaded chaddi-baniyan-dhari band of thieves, notoriously known as the CBD gang, struck!

The 27-year-old woman was roughly roused from her slumber by four men dressed in their under clothes - except for one who had donned her husband's pant and shirt - and looted off her jewellery and cash worth Rs1.21 lakh.

In her complaint to the police, Kinjal stated, "Around 1 am my husband Darshan got a call from his friend who had met with an accident near Sola crossroads.

He left the house and locked it from outside. I settled myself in my bedroom and began to listen to music on my cell phone. After a couple of minutes, when I was half-asleep, four people sneaked into the room."

According to the police, after Kinjal's husband left the house, four unidentified men aged between 20 and 22 broke the stopper of the house and tiptoed inside. Police said the crooks went straight to the  complainant's bedroom. They were carrying baseball bats and a khurpa (a tool to dig soil) in their hands.

Interestingly, one of the gang members put on her husband's shirt and before they left the house, one of them returned her a mobile which he had stolen from the house and told her to inform her husband about the incident. However, they warned her not to make a noise until they got out of the house.

After informing her husband, Kinjal began to scream for help. But, by the time the neighbours came to the rescue, the culprits had vanished. According to police, the modus operandi makes it clear that the robbery was the handiwork of a CBD gang.

These brand of criminals normally target their prey in rural areas and infamously wear undergarments before they set off on to rob someone. They also apply oil on their bodies, apparently so that they can 'slip' away if apprehended by their victims or police.
