Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Pranab Mukherjee paid tribute the Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of his birth anniversary early Sunday morning. They were at Rajghat along with several top party leaders to pay respects to the father of the nation.

In his message to the nation on Saturday evening, Mukherjee said, "Gandhiji's ideals of non-violence, freedom, equality and religious tolerance have eternal value."Gandhiji taught us the value of harmonious co-existence and mutual respect. He displayed a rare constellation of abilities and showed how individuals can advance social and political change. He had an exemplary passion for justice and an indefatigable spirit of service to mankind."

Prime Minister Modi had said cleanliness and sanitation were very close to the heart of Mahatma Gandhi and it was the social responsibility of every citizen to help fulfill Gandhiji's vision of Clean India.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, Vice President Hamid Ansari, BJP leaders LK Advani, M Venkaiah Naidu, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also paid their respects at Rajghat.
