"The Centre has recently written to Secretary, Social Welfare Department of Uttar Pradesh government to constitute a three-member committee to probe alleged discrepancies in distribution of equipment in 16 districts by the Trust to handicapped persons," District Social Welfare Officer Lalita Yadav said here today.

The state government later wrote to the district administration of 16 districts to probe the matter, she said, adding that "probe has already been initiated in Farukhabad." The UPA government had in 2011 granted Rs 68 lakh to the Trust for distribution of equipment to handicapped persons but there were allegations of discrepancies in the process.
