Fourteen passengers were injured, some of them seriously, when a bus fell into a roadside ditch in Chirang district of Assam today.
  
The private bus coming from neighbouring Kokrajhar to Bongaigaon district via Chirang fell into the ditch at Sundari when the driver lost control of his vehicle, police said. The injured were sent to Bongaigaon civil hospital.
  
Construction work of a four-lane highway in the area by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had adversely affected the condition of the road often compromising with the safety of vehicles, the police said.
