Four generations of Rahul Gandhi never went to temples: Yogi Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said that four generations of Congress president Rahul Gandhi had never gone to a temple or wore the sacred thread.

Speaking at a function in Kannauj, Yogi Adityanath alleged that Rahul begins the temple-hopping drama only when the elections are around the corner. 

“His four generations have never gone to a temple or wore sacred thread. He does it only when polls are around,” Yogi said.

The Chief Minister alleged devout Hindus, who visit temples, don’t show off but go there out of their faith to pay obeisance to the God and deities. “Rahul’s visits to temples are nothing but a show off to prove himself to be a devout Hindu. But people will never believe in his poll-related gimmicks,” the saffron-clad politician said.

The Chief Minister also took a jibe at those talking of reservation and Dalits’ rights. “Why don’t they advocate and demand reservations to Dalits and backwards in Aligarh Muslim University and Jamia Milia Islamia University,” he said.

Earlier, Yogi launched ‘Clean Gomti’ campaign in Lucknow along with his Cabinet colleagues. He said that about 1500 NGOs and 7500 Green volunteers have taken a pledge to clean the river and its banks.

“I feel unhappy whenever I see polluted water in Gomti river and filth on its banks. It is Lucknow’s lifeline and it’s the duty of every citizen of the state capital to keep it clean,” he said.

"This maha abhiyan will generate awareness among the people about the environment. It will also motivate the people to keep the rivers clean," Adityanath said.

On the occasion, he planted and distributed sapling for a massive tree plantation on the banks of the river and administered a pledge to the citizens to ensure cleanliness of the river.
