Former Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand Chief Minister ND Tiwari passed away on Thursday.

Tiwari was admitted at the Max Super Speciality Hospital and died at 2.50 pm, the doctors said.

The politician was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital on October 26. He was suffering from fever and pneumonia.

Last year, he was admitted to the hospital on September 20 after suffering a brain stroke.

"I am saddened by the untimely demise of former UP and Uttarakhand Chief Minister ND Tiwari. I offer my deepest condolences to his family and pray that his soul rests in peace," said Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Yogi also said that he will always be remembered as an able administrator.

In January 2017, Congress veteran Tiwari had joined BJP along with son Rohit and wife Ujjwala, dealing a major blow to a party he served for over five decades ahead of Assembly elections in Uttarakhand.

The veteran leader has also served as a Union minister in several Congress governments and as the Andhra Pradesh governor.
