Former Union Minister PK Thungon gets four-and-a-half years in jail for corruption
Last week, special CBI judge Ajay Kumar Jain had convicted the former union minister in the case.
A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Monday awarded four and a half years' jail term and a fine of Rs 10,000 to former union minister PK Thungon in connection with a corruption case.Last week, special CBI judge Ajay Kumar Jain had convicted the former union minister in this case. Thungan, along with three other accused, was involved in misappropriation of Central funds. Seeking leniency by the Court, Mr Thungon said, "The Jawaharlal Nehru Open University was my brain child. The Panchayati Raj was enacted in Parliament because of my idea during the tenure of then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and I have worked for national integration."
