The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached former Haryana chief minister Prakash Chautala's immovable property worth Rs 1.94 crore in a disproportionate assets case.

The agency attached land and a farmhouse in New Delhi under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA).

The case was initiated on the basis of an FIR registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against Chautala and others over acquisition of assets disproportionate to their known source of income.

CBI had filed a charge sheet against Chautala, Abhay Chautala and Ajay Chautala under the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.

Investigation conducted by the CBI revealed that Chautala had acquired assets disproportionate to his known source of income to the tune of Rs 6.09 crore between May 24, 1993 and May 31, 2006. Investigations also revealed that Abhay and Ajay acquired assets disproportionate to their known sources of income to the tune of Rs 119.69 crore and Rs 27.74 crore, respectively.

During the probe it was found that Chautala had acquired immovable assets at New Delhi, Panchkula and also constructed a residential house at Sirsa in Haryana using money received from undisclosed sources.

It was also revealed that Chautala was directly involved in acquisition and projecting of various tainted properties as his untainted properties.

Earlier, the agency had attached properties worth Rs 46 lakh and of Rs 3.68 crores.

A prosecution complaint against Chautala was also filed before a Special Court on July 17, 2018, cognisance of which was taken by the court on November 27, 2018. Later, a supplementary prosecution complaint was also filed before Special Court on April 25 this year.
